Medical Mission to Huancayo, Peru: September 5-10, 2019

Peru is a country with over 5000 years of history, one of the cradles of civilization and one of the greatest empires in historical and archaeological legacy that was gestated through different ancient cultures one of the most diverse nations on the planet. We will be providing medical services to 500 adults and children in the community of Cocharcas in the city of Huancayo. This mission is a collaborative effort of Caring Hearts Medical Foundation and Universidad Roosevelt Peru.

DESCRIPTION OF THE POPULATION MEDICAL MISSION WILL SERVE
The parents of the students at the College of Cochran work in the field of agriculture, commerce and transportation. Most households are poor and have no access to health care services. Common Health problems found in these families include anemia, parasitosis, dermatomycoses, cardiovascular problems (HTN), respiratory problems (Influenza, cold, bronchitis) and Gastrointestinal problems (Gastritis).


We will also be journeying to MAN’S ILO OF ANCIANOS SAN VICENTE DE PAUL
The Geriatric Residential Care Center San Vicente de Paul is an institution providing comprehensive service underprivileged older adults.
There are approximately 50 people living in this institution. They are provided comprehensive care by a multidisciplinary team, in order to achieve a quality of life within the framework of their rights.

TEAM

Steven Bayer PA-C
Steven completed PA school in 2017 at Marshall B. Ketchum University in Fullerton, California. Prior to beginning his PA studies, Steven worked as a dialysis technician and an EMT in Colorado where he also attended college at Colorado State University. Since becoming a PA, Steven has spent his time working with Dr. Daramola at Caring Hearts Medical Clinic in San Diego, CA. He is very involved in both PA education and outreach. He is a mentor for Pre-PA students from San Diego State University, as well as a volunteer clinical preceptor for PA students from his Alma Mater. In his free time, Steven enjoys spending time on the beach and traveling with his wife, Erica. Steven’s hobbies include playing soccer, rock climbing, paddle boarding, and watching football. Steven is a very caring and compassionate health care provider and he make a huge impact in the lives of his patients.

Iyabo O. Daramola.MD
Dr. Iyabo Daramola, completed her medical education at the University of Ife in Nigeria, West Africa. Following this she embarked on a journey which would bring her to San Diego CA in 1998 where she started practicing as a General Internal Medicine Physician. Dr. Daramola established Caring Hearts Medical Clinic and Caring Hearts Medical Foundation in the year 2000. Patients receive a variety of health care services at Caring Hearts Medical Clinic including primary health care (preventive health interventions) and management of chronic diseases. Patients receive follow-up treatment and ongoing managed care for Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, hypothyroidism, osteoarthritis and other chronic conditions. Our health care team has provided free health care through local and international outreach programs to thousands of patients without access to health care. The Caring Hearts team believes that Caring IS Healing. Dr Daramola enjoys cooking, movies, traveling and spending time relaxing with her close friends and family. Most of all, her passion lies in spending as much time as possible in the service of less fortunate people.

Cynthia Maria and Ceferino Fajardo
Cynthia Maria and Ceferino are veterans in health care in San Diego County. For over 20 years they have provided high quality home health services to thousands of recipients through their network of nursing and allied health professionals. They believe in doing things well or not at all. They have been silent supporters of many charitable medical outreach programs in San Diego and third world countries. They enjoy traveling internationally. Ceferino is an excellent cook. He enjoys fine cuisine. Cynthia Maria enjoys cooking, gardening and spending time with her family. They both enjoy helping people that are less fortunate in any way that they can.

Edith Uhegwu, RN
Edith Uhegwu is a registered nurse with over 23 years’ experience in behavioral health. She retired in 2019. She spent a significant part of her career of in administrative and managerial positions. She also spent the last 8 years running a home health agency and working as a home health nurse. She is a mother of four. In her spare time, she enjoys, running, sewing, traveling and spending time with her family. She also enjoys traveling, cooking and entertaining.

Jeanine Dryer
Jeanine Dryer is a patient at the Caring Hearts Medical Clinic. She has lived most of her life in San Diego CA. She worked on boats for almost 30 years. She is a sailor and wooden boat specialist. She paints and varnishes wooden boats.
She worked with dolphins in San Francisco, and Florida in the past. She rides horses and has a horse at her ranch in Jamul. She loves to spend quiet time with her dogs, garden and travel. She is a very strong supporter of Caring Hearts Medical Clinic and Foundation programs targeting the medically under-served here in San Diego and internationally. She is very excited about getting some hands-on experience in the service of the under-served

CARING HEARTS MEDICAL CLINIC AND FOUNDATION DESCRIPTION OF MEDICAL MISSION
COLLEGE OF COCHARCAS

In May 1963 the College of Cochras began its operation as an annex to the current “Our Lady of the Rosary” with the name “Cooperative College”. By R.D. No. 632 dated 16 December 1963, this institution was derailed and created with the name of Colegio “Our Lady of Cocharcas”, thanks to the management of the senator of the republic Ramiro Prialé Prialé; starting its attention with 17 sections exclusively for ladies from the first to the fifth grade of secondary education in rented premises located in the streets: Lima, Huánuco and Ancash of the district of Huancayo.
In June 1964, law No. 15051 expropriated a plot of 38130.56 square meters, located at the southern end of the district of Ocopilla, Huancayo district, Huancayo province and Junín region; where the institutional premises that lasts to this day were built.
By D.S. No. 058-1964 it was renamed the Great School Unit. In 1983 with R.D. No. 383 it was called the National Women’s College “OUR LADY OF COCHARCAS” and today the Ministry of Education called it educational institution “Our Lady of Cocharcas”. In its more than 50 years of institutional life has been highlighted in many academic, sporting, artistic and productive events at the regional, national and international levels.

MAN’S ILO OF ANCIANOS SAN VICENTE DE PAUL
The Geriatric Residential Care Center San Vicente de Paul is an institution providing comprehensive service to socially vulnerable older adults.
There are approximately 50 people who are housed in this institution. They are provided comprehensive care by a multidisciplinary team, in order to achieve a quality of life within the framework of their rights.
Commonly conditions include: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, High blood pressure, Dermatologic conditions
This Medical Mission is a collaborative project of Caring Hearts Medical Foundation and Universidad Roosevelt Peru. The credit for making this mission happen goes to Ruben Gavilan a native of Huancayo and resident of San Diego who spearheaded and provided the logistical support to organize and make this mission a reality for the medical team and the recipients.
